FairPlay Streaming is a DRM system that uses the HLS (HTTP Live Streaming) protocol to distribute streaming video safely. Material producers, encoder suppliers, and delivery networks may encrypt content, securely exchange keys, and safeguard playback on iOS, iPadOS, watchOS 7, tvOS, and macOS using FairPlay Streaming (FPS) technology.
Fairplay DRM is a studio-approved DRM that ensures safe streaming in Apple's iOS app, Safari, and Mac Safari. We've put up a step-by-step tutorial for applying Apple FairPlay DRM in this post. FairPlay DRM prevents movies from being downloaded and also prevents screen recording.
All client environments that support FPS DRM, such as Mac OS, iOS,watchOS, and tvOS, are highly secure at the hardware level.
FPS DRM natively supports Airplay, Apple's wireless content delivery protocol. As a result, FPS content on Apple devices can be played on Apple TV through AirPlay without any additional coding.
Starting with iOS 10, download and offline playback of FPS content are supported. The relevant APIs provided by the OS can be used to handle downloading and managing HLS content with offline licenses.
